Good but odd final third??
Solid social commentary and satire throughout but I thought the story left certain storylines incomplete and lacked the grandeur of Parasite and Memories of Murder.
Stellar performances from Robert, Mark and Toni as expected and the dinner table scene was the highlight for me.

Manchester by the Sea 2016
The scene where the friend's mum asks him if he wants to come in and have food because she made too much and he pauses before he replies and you want him with all your heart to say yes but you know deep down he'll say no and then he does is just heartbreaking and the turning point in the film for me as it really solidifies his now irreversible nihilistic outlook on life and that he's not going to 'beat it' or get better.

I went into this with low expectations as I knew I wouldn't enjoy the storyline with Spacey being infatuated with the girl. I was pleasantly surprised that there were other elements to the story which I definitely enjoyed more. Before the final third I was hinged on giving it 4 stars. I can understand how people interpreted it as pretentious but I enjoyed the plastic bag scene. Ultimately the film still left a bad taste in my mouth.
