“I just don't find them that pleasant to be around.”

Effectively and intentionally upsetting. Although Bjorn does express why he’s the way he is, balling up all that emotion in, would likely cause an explosion of anger eventually, right? Apparently not. The animal instincts never kicked in.

Poor decision after poor decision and without a truly satisfying trajectory or payoff; the film went out with a whimper. The music and imagery were very well done at least. Creepy vibe was on another level here.

“Split up. Girls on the left, guys on the right.“

Technically, a brilliant work indeed. The restrictive setting of the university did not hinder Villenueve’s visual flair. The performances were powerful, real, harrowing and haunting. Apparently, the family members of the victims had this screened to them before release; they gave their blessing. Still seems exploitative when you think about it. But, can’t be said with virtually any sad/tragic true life story?

Renovations are done and we’re back at The Music Box Theatre!

Filled with twists and turns and can be analyzed from multiple viewpoints, it’s safe to say that this is my favorite Hitchcock film so far. The themes of obsession, possession, PTSD and grief shine bright and the beautiful technicolor adds to the film’s awesome visual language. Some of my favorite Hitchcock frames and camerawork are…
