I was explaining the movie to my roommate, and an aggressive man on the bus started intensely staring us down. After a while he goes “You guys talking about a movie? Sounds like my life. Got the brain of a little kid but the aggression of an adult. Cops don’t care about that though, they tried me as an adult.”

This movie has a unique magical power to piss off stupid people. No other movie is so technically clean and aesthetically accessible yet emotionally profound and psychologically avant garde, that it short circuits those who cannot access the subconscious tides that the movie crashes into.

The time I watched it before this, someone I watched it with said something like “this movie proves how pretentious movie culture is, that they call stupid shit like this the best movies ever.” That’s a defense mechanism against turning inwards.

Gene said that this movie, which was about sex, had too much sex in it.
