  I think the extent to which Honda's corpus makes use of parodies of ancient "primitive" civilizations warrants more analysis, especially because of how often it is accompanied and contrasted with Japanese nationalism and discussion of WW2.

  One of the most important innovations of this movie within the Godzilla franchise is definitely having strong emotionally-complex characters, but I felt that this came at the cost of Godzilla representing the human-versus-nature conflict.

  I value the book upon which this movie is based immensely. It has a deep amount of historical significance and was very transgressive for its time. The culture of BDSM has developed in many ways since this novel was published, and tastes have certainly changed too, but it is still very influential and appeals to the desires of many.
