    A Quiet Place: Day One

A plot that just wanders around pretty aimlessly with characters popping in and out. The overall pace and vibe of the film is quite different from the first two, which is disappointing because that was the best thing about them.

Crossing is undoubtedly one of my top 3 films of the year. It’s a classic “stoic elderly x curious teen” story, which is one of my favorite narrative formats (The Holdovers was my Oscar bet for 2023). Mzia Arabuli, Lucas Kankava, and Deniz Dumanli killed it with their performances.

    Longlegs

    ★★★½

Longlegs is a technically beautiful horror film, but it has a lead that falls short in delivering a truly impactful performance. This satanic whodunit features a bonechilling performance by Nicholas Cage with captivating cinematography and sound design.

It has a lot of long wide takes with doors, windows, and spaces that really unsettles you as your eyes dart around the composition trying not to catch anything looming.

The marketing for this film was phenominal, but it did not live up to the hype. Still liked it! Bumped into Paul Mescal at the same screening lol.
