All of these women’s experiences are valid. However in D Smith’s doc, it felt like there was no direction, and seemed very chaotic. The music in the background was a choice that was jarring and distracting. Something serious was slapped with stock comedy music and I couldn’t immerse myself fully in the message.
Temporally, the way the narrative bounced around was confusing to follow but, at the same time, I think that conveys Tessa's essence as being quite fragmented. Her mother brings her into a life where she no longer exists but the door is open for her to accept the her death and move on but she can't. Tessa becomes one of the trinkets. I enjoyed like the theatrical design too, it emphasised the mother's mental state.
