The Feeling of Being Watched 2018
an incredible documentary on the surveillance of Muslim communities in the US (specifically Chicago in this film). although hearing about the invasive strategies of surveillance by the FBI not surprising, it is a heavy watch. Assia does an incredible job informing the community and creating a collective movement. "perhaps the only way to disrupt surveillance is to make sure that those who do the watching are also being watched"

the details in this film were so intricate, it lowkey wasn’t until the credits that I realized the entire story of Fae Richards is fictional (ALSO this is technically not a spoiler???). Cheryl Dunye is a genius, depicting a young woman navigating her queerness and Blackness and career goals and all the challenges and nuances and constant aggressions she experiences to piece together this “documentary.”
