One of the most timeless, flawlessly executed comedies I've seen. And the most iconic San Francisco car chase. I'm sorry, Bullitt who?

I think the folks that made this had fun, and that's what counts. It's good that they went so over the top and goofy with it, because at least that makes this movie memorable. But it felt like a rich kid's student film. It could have been more impactful with 15 minutes of runtime, for all the ideas it expressed. Don't get me wrong, it found lots of flashy if not unique ways to express them. But there was very little depth, let alone anything to be surprised by, and lots of well executed albeit low-hanging bits of shock value.

This made me feel like I've never seen a movie before. That's what art is all about, baby!

I should hate everything about Dallas. But the way it's portrayed here is tender and endearing somehow. This is comedically exaggerated and satirical much in the way of David Byrne's True Stories, but so much more gentle and subtle that it probably leaves audiences not familiar with Altman confused and bored, and cynically angry if they bother to stick around til the end. If one only frees oneself from the prison of expectation they'll trust the vision and be surprised by the unexpectedly surreal and striking climax.
