Sheds light onto the brutal and at times insidious aspects of organised crime in Italy. An impressive film with intriguing characters. Although I didn't feel connected with one specific character/story, the poisoning of crops stood out to me. Maybe because it depicted a more coercive and indirect form of violence - as well as highlighting the broader, systemic issues at play.

Focuses on cinematic techniques such as shots, lighting and framing. A documentation of film techniques which influence how women are perceived, and the wider significance of this. It wasn’t very nuanced, especially in terms of exploring contexts of films. Some nuanced takes could’ve added more depth.

Ideas of beauty, pleasure, agency, objectification and power are discussed. Power being the central theme.

‘The first feminist gesture is to say: “OK, they're looking at me. But I'm looking at them.” The act of deciding to look, of deciding that the world is not defined by how people see me, but how I see them.’
