  No, but this movie portrays Selma’s unconditional love for Gene so beautifully, and there’s always a small glimmer of hope shining through its two-hour runtime. I don’t know why, but I adore everything about this movie except for the last scene.

  Basically exposing a lot of parts of Japan that I hate, like the porn industry, enjo kōsai, pedophilia, and it was a painful watch, but the cinematography and the editing kept me entertained!! Very hideaki!!

  1960年代、まだアンダーグランドだったゲイボーイ達に焦点を当てた点は、凄く画期的だったと思う。白黒の映像ながら、色彩の深みと感情、映像の荒みがしっかり伝わってきて、不気味でありながら美しく、圧倒される映像美。登場人物へのインタビューや監督自身が登場するシーン、撮影の裏側をあえて見せるなど、実験的な演出がたくさんで、とにも興味深かった。また、ストーリーの面では人間関係での嫉妬や複雑な感情が絡み合っていたし、今でもLGBTQ+の若者たちが直面している現実をよく描き出せていて、エディが鏡の前で口紅をつけて、母に叩かれるシーンでは、自分の心に何か響くものがあってうるうるしちゃった。ラストのどんでん返しは衝撃的で、伏線回収の仕方も見事で面白かった。そして、若きピーターがとにかく美しかった...
