I may be biased since I'm already not the biggest fan of musicals, but everything about this felt like I was watching a Disney Channel original movie. Forced dialogue, uninteresting characters, stale story. I was really dreading going into this after I found out the runtime was 2hr40m, but it was very well paced which is probably the one nice thing I can say about it. That and Jeff Goldblum (who can do no wrong).

Surprisingly well paced with mostly clever writing that was fairly funny, though I feel I will ultimately forget most of it by tomorrow. But great casting other than the occasional "iPad kid" face popping up (Finn Wolfhard). A fun watch.

Timotheé Chalamet, Monica Barbaro, and Edward Norton all had great performances as their respective characters, so it's unfortunate they were overshadowed by the usual lazy biopic writing. Stop introducing "important" characters by their full names only for them to have like 2 lines!! Let the audience figure out who these people are on their own after the movie's over!! They are not important to the story that you're telling right now!!! Fuck!!

But everything else was good overall. Good plot and I actually liked Timotheé's singing voice which was the *second* big thing I was worried about going into this aside from the rushed writing.

Movies like this give me so much hope for the future of filmmaking. An absolutely fucking hilarious "silent" slapstick comedy with charming visuals and storytelling made for $150,000. What a miracle. The way the story is built upon and built upon and built upon is astounding. Every little gag and character and setting is used perfectly and wastes no time using each of them to their fullest potential. Watching every detail grow and grow and get wrapped up perfectly by…
