it takes like two minutes of research to understand that people with autism struggle greatly with transitions, change in routine and sensory overwhelm. and yet ezra is made to change schools, taken on a cross-country road trip, forced to endure physical touch and has his difficulties with certain foods and materials discounted as trivial. i think the depiction of ezra's autism was accurate but his parents' treatment of it was baffling and infuriating.
