Gladiator II 2024
came in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It was a fun time and not too over the top, the story was well written, Denzel brought an undeniable aura to the movie, and Pedro Mescal made for a hell of a gladiator. I enjoyed all the action sequences and call backs to the OG flick. Was a bit predictable but that didn’t matter, it was fun as hell.

really liked the approach they took with the aliens, overall a really solid film and the twist was enjoyable but I still needed a YouTube video to fully explain it. while a good movie it’s not one that blew me away in particular, it’s the villenevue banger I’ve enjoyed the least so far.

a great return to form for the alien franchise, characters played their part well, the aliens felt like a true cosmic threat. Loved the red lighting through out most of the film. Not a fan of the AI character but wasn’t enough to take you out of the movie experience. Hopefully the alien franchise continues to do these ensemble one off groups, when done right it’s phenomenal

The Substance 2024
this movie is disgusting in the best way possible. a fresh take on the body horror genre that genuinely made me wince and feel disgusted. The first two acts were phenomenal and immersive but i do wish they leaned more into the ideas of aging/beauty/addiction, would’ve made the ending hit harder. The last act puts the body horror into overdrive and feels like an homage to classics of the past, a bit comical but with intent. Dont recommend eating while watchin 😳
