Disappointing movie. Strange dialogue and oddly handled subject matter. Felt like Hugh Grant's "Mr. Reed" has just finished reading Charles Dawkins' "The God Delusion" and then felt compelled to proselytize those nice Mormon girls into his warped faith. It is not cute or clever that this is some twisted inverse of what they were doing, entering his home and trying to convert him. Annihilation 2018
Very pretty visuals and a bunch of really tense scenes accompanied by a great performance by Natalie Portman. Major Roadside Picnic/S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vibes. Almost everything in the Shimmer is one mysterious, high tension scene after another. Kino ending. I don't think this movie gets the credit it deserves.

Melancholia 2011
Beautiful movie with a great cast. Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg put in work and their characters go to dark places. End of Evangelion meets Annihilation and Solaris. A movie about depression, self-destruction, and death, but the glimmer of human goodness in there somehow felt inspiring and heartwarming. Sometimes hard to watch but emotionally resonant. Remember when the world ended in 2012?
