Achieves having a simple premise but making it as chaotically nonsensical as possible, and when it goes for broad comedy it’s shockingly tasteless. Watched with the worst subtitles in the world but I’m not sure if a good translation would have helped me understand the plot any more tbh. The action scenes always seem to be designed to feel like a half dozen fights are going on simultaneously, with a whole bunch of flailing human bodies (usually accompanied by insane dangerous explosions) occupying the screen at any given time. Sheer lunacy, pretty awesome if you’re willing to just vibe w/ it. Stellar cast, too!

80’s Hong Kong action Highlander done with bonkers action sequences and weird broad comedy that rarely goes over well with audiences in 2025 but in this instance there’s a lot of jokes about a guy being from a different time period trying to get a television to work and whatnot and it’s pretty funny. Does the thing where it starts at a specific time period with elaborate sets and costumes and completely drops it after the first few minutes. Maggie Cheung gets to show off some comic chops and is as always delightful.

The first portion of this movie plays like a very good, if unspectacular, installment of the 30 for 30 series. The footage is presented really well and the subject matter itself is compelling. Also, it's great to see early footage of players like Lebron, Melo, Wade et al performing at the same level as Cooke. Big Hoop Dreams vibes.

The final third or so of the film--the footage that the Safdies filmed themselves--is pretty incredible. It's like this really sad,…

Your home belongs to the bank, your gas tank is lining the pockets of those who had more to do with 9/11 than the country your brother just died fighting in, and you’re told the economy is in high gear even though your paycheck is buying less and less.

But what you just saw in the cage was unambiguous. One person hit another, and the other fell. Nothing about it lied to you.
