How can a movie be so bad and so good at the same time?
Commando is a perfect example of why people (myself included) love B-action movies of the 80s/90s:
- Hard as a nail main character with a clumsy, but likeable sidekick;
- A plot that is as straightforward (and sometimes nonsensical) as that of a 4th gen console video game;
- Bad guys acting like complete idiots despite having the hero outnumbered all the time;
- The most cringeworthy yet funny one-liners you can imagine.
They don't make them like this anymore...
Space Okja with a touch of Snowpiercer, but as much as I wanted to like, it unfortunately wasn't as good as either of those.
Mickey 17 tries to be too much at once, too many subplots that are going nowhere and it eventually does not become the satire it tries to be. I feel really bad for giving it 4.5 stars, but I think it truly is an excellent movie, the dark hole of black comedies.
The closest example I can name for what I've experienced while watching The Coffee Table was The Square (2017) with the main differences being that this movie dives into it right from the beginning with its cca. 85-minute runtime so I felt like shit from scene one (and it is also much-much meaner).
