  here’s my take: Tarkovsky is a god from whom this world needs to be disenchanted, and his influence must be overcome. no other film that seeks to put together time, memory, history, and poetry in pursuit of the ‘absolute’ and transcendental will ever surpass this one. it’s simply the best, and we are all merely its mimicries.

  shattered me to pieces. Lee Chang-dong translates totality of grief into lethargic portrait of a character; everything else that entails movement, life, sound - becomes irritating, out of touch, with a constant feeling of falsehood. it’s a lonely film and probably only one that “understands” and validates my own anger which i bury deep within me, convincing myself that it’s not there.
