Zero Dark Thirty 2012
Katherine Bigelow made a solid, slow burn movie. But most of my thoughts are not so much about the craft but rather how it depicts these real-life situations.
It could have been substantially more honest in showing the horrific atrocities that were committed to find and assassinate UBL. I haven’t read the short story, but I suspect there was a good reason why it wasn’t a novel. Maybe they should’ve done the same with its film adaptation (and make it a short) and wouldn’t have felt repetitive, dragging, and a little boring.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
It took me a minute to see the main brothers as their characters rather the actors in funny haircuts.
It also took me a minute, despite how obviously is (in hindsight) to figure out what this movie is actually about; being and having a brother. When it finally got me, holy shit. It was devastatingly beautiful.

Anatomy of a Fall 2023
I did not realize Daniel was visually impaired until 40-is minutes into the movie. I just thought he liked wearing cool sunglasses lol.
Seriously though, even it took me around 20-30 minutes to get into the headspace of the film, I truly appreciated it. The ambiguity of it all— the grey-ness, the lack of a need to paint a true and clear “antagonist”, the “slice of life-ness” is what I most liked about it.
