A classic for a reason. There are so many frames that are like paintings, and the question of what is theatre and what is reality hums in every scene. It also has a sense of humor, even if that humor is of the dark swedish kind. Worth the investment of hours.
beautifully shot, delightfully unfollowable, fun to try to make sense of. It feels like a film version of an iSpy book. Pynchon set loose on a cut and dry noir and 70s repression of counter cultures. For a day when you have some patience to be taken down a windy road.
One of the most creative true crime movies I’ve seen in a long time. The pacing is surprising (odd?), the writing is disturbing and funny. I appreciated the sensuality between the two male leads. The red 70s interiors, soundtrack and dance scenes are so good. This movie has a lot of endearing small details.
While I could track Villeneuve’s vision, this was a mixed bag. Within the first 10 min you get brashness where Scott would put methodical suspense. With so much money thrown at this, it lost the more delicate feel of the original. The incredible graphics, however, capture and expand the feel of the original. The tech is beautifully rendered. So, yummy to watch for an absolute nerd like me!
