this is a fun movie as long as you're not holding it to the standard of Parasite. this script is a bit meandering and a lot of it is just quirky for the sake of being quirky. bong is still a talented director, robert pattinson is acting his ass off, and naomi ackie is an absolute badass in this movie. everyone else is a total charicature and has zero depth, but at leas they seem like they're having fun.

still a fantastic film and one of the most iconic movies of the last decade. the music still bangs, the cinematography is stunning, the production design is beautiful. but on a rewatch i do feel that the characters could be developed more… it honestly feels like this movie is more interested in jazz than fleshing out its own characters. also it’s a romance movie, but the leads’ chemistry is just okay. and it’s a musical, but gosling’s singing voice isn’t great. either way, still a film with an uncompromising vision. i miss you damien chazelle
