They got what they deserved. Yes, victim-blaming is generally considered to be a negative behavior, but this film perfectly shows the situation from other perspective, so everything is not so unambiguous as it seems. Story takes unexpected twist in the end of the film - violent, abusive, humiliating, evil, showing the dark side of inhuman and instinctive nature of man.
