After a rewatch/ first watch of the extended. What a mess that ended up decent. 90% of extended/deleted scenes from the LOTR trilogy you can see are simply cut for time. But yikes this movie had to be PURIFIED to be watchable. The viewers get two losses for every win.
Wins: Martin Freeman’s acting, any dwarven culture moments (language history etc) Benedict Cumberbatch Smaug. Mirkwood, Laketown, and Erebor backgrounds aren’t like any other

Truly this movie encapsulates what it means to make fun movies out of franchises. It still floors me that this movie was one of the first/only to topple a disney film on opening weekend.
