Conclave 2024
The intent of this film is to highlight the exclusion of women and femininity in the Catholic Church. The performances are great. The vestments are glorious. There are shots in this movie that will rightly find their way into cinematography syllabi. But it fails in very important and harmful ways- first in conflating sex organs with gender knowledge, then in painting a real institution that has committed real crimes against real victims as something far more ethical and liberal than it actually is.
