Felt like a great final arc in a season of anime. With 16 episodes before this, the story would have the weight it deserves. Unfortunately, while there were some cool moments, the overall story is barely even surface deep and makes very little sense and carries little to no gravity. I wonder if it translates better in the native Japanese.

I enjoy a good musical every once in a while, but I am far from a theatre kid. There’s a certain quality to the theatre music that rubs me the wrong way when it’s seen on screen vs on a stage. A while back I finished watching the first season of Arcane and told everyone that it’s one of the best first seasons of all time. Absolutely special man. Miyazaki has really been telling us to stop killing our earth and each other for 40 years. We never listen.

He also inspired so many future film makers. The influences from this movie are everywhere including his future movies. Only complaint is that the ending feels a bit rushed but the rest of the movie more than makes up for it. Beautiful thematically and despite the animation being old it still holds strong. Can’t beat Miyazaki.
