pov: you're the main character in Emma Cline's The Guest, but more chaotic, more imaginative, and more successful.
Went in for Tuesday half-price tickets, not knowing the director's past work. Haunting and contemplative, with moments of great dialogue that subtly underline the film's title. The first chunk felt like a slow-paced depiction of rural life, but as soon as the plot tension emerged, the stakes become clear. Appropriately ambiguous ending, but the thesis seems pretty clear: learn to live in balance with nature. Or else.
