American Fiction 2023
I loved the humor/satirical elements of this movie, it was dry and witty and just my style, plus it had a strong message about celebrating authenticity and the pretentiousness of the writing industry. Loved Jeffrey Wright especially.
I wasn’t entirely sure about the family drama subplot, I felt it could have been toned down significantly in exchange for more commentary. I guess it’s to show how one’s real-life experiences shape how they write? Cool, but that point can still be conveyed with less time dedicated to it.
Overall a good watch, fun and painful all at once. Cunty poster too.

I actually have no idea what to rate this movie because I'm a HUGE baby when it comes to body horror, but Moore and Qualley had absolutely incredible performances and it's shot beautifully. Grossness with a strong message, that's how I'd sum it up.
My one critique is that - and maybe I'm just dumb - I don't get how it's a satire. Like what is it satirizing? Horror? Celebrity culture? Because if it was either of those, to me it seemed like it was played completely straight, except for maybe the ending.
Love a good campy horror though, and this is that.
