This film is a lot of fcking fun and that saves the rating. Like totally unnecessary and not very memorable addition to the franchise. But very fun space heist movie

It feels very low stakes (even when in reality the stakes are high) but it gets away with it because its Solo's story. Imagine Han Solo telling the story and it fits

Thank God for Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge

But I goddamn hate colour grading in films now. Not just this film - but the first part of this
    has terrible colour

This is easily the best prequel. The dialogue is still the dialogue... But the plot is so much more focused, darker and cleaner.

It sets up the originals completely, and knowing where it had to end up undoubtedly made it a better screenplay than episodes 1 & 2.

Anakin's arc is still rushed but actually it fits his characterisation better than I remembered. Someone so single-minded and hot-headed would be more easy to manipulate and focus to one goal very quickly.
Iconic film (and not just for the memes it generated 😅)

The dialogue is bad. Especially in the Anakin/Padmé relationship and in (overly)explicitly forcing Anakin's character change

Just my take. But I think this is one of the earlier action blockbusters that tried to have truly emotionally complex characters. George Lucas just isn't good at nuance and it resulted in clunky melodramatic dialogue. He knew the story he wanted to tell for his characters, but not how to tell it. Especially to a post-2000's audience who had just started to see…
