This movie is shallow and uninterested in its stated themes. Lacks the requisite care and depth for these topics. And do not get me started on the lack of period and regionally appropriate Boston accents. Offensive and sad!!!

It was very cool to see something that seems basically divorced from the whole visual history of cinema. Every camera move and edit was completely unconventional but sometimes seemingly the obvious choices of someone who first gets their hands on a camera you can physically put places.

Congratulations to late 90s Japan! You succeeded in making the worst society imaginable. This was a pretty tough watch at times. Did I find it depraved because it is or because I just can’t accept the fundamental depravity of being a 15yo girl? Reservations aside this was extremely emotionally affecting.

Two middle-aged Irishmen absolutely bodied by standard issue trauma for every high school girl. Motifs and storytelling seem kind of obvious but still sort of charming

The wireframe model of a great movie. It looks great, all the pieces appear to be in place, but it can barely stand under its own weight, and underneath there’s nothing there and certainly no real people inside. The first half is honestly pretty great, and then the second reveals all the thin load bearing elements that won’t hold. As thin as a fable down to the evil gay villain and ethnic tokens.

If Megalopolis was lib boomer The Fountainhead…
