On January 16th 2025, we lost one of the greatest directors who ever walked the earth. One of my favourite directors and one of my biggest influences and inspirations in not only cinema but my life.

A film which truly cements its self as one of the best films of the century, normally when a year has some great films, some are talked about, some are forgotten and fade into obscurity, this however has truly stood the test of time…

If a film’s ending can make you swear at the TV for being over then it’s definitely doing something right

A truly uncomfortable yet mesmerising watch which provides us with a descent into insanity that completely subverts the “Thriller” genre like no other film.

It shares similarities with films like Manhunter (1986), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and even Longlegs (2024) for a more recent example in terms of its plot and the way it presents its characters. Koji Yakusho…

The Hitchcockian influences went hard with this one, got a real sense of Rear Window vibes with this one.

Also, what kind of supervillain-ass lair was that apartment that Jake moved into.

One of the first Kubrick films that I ever watched and have been wanting to revisit for a while.

Both halves are equally as great, the tonal shifts are some of the best ever displayed in a war film, some really remarkable cinematography and character development, that final scene with the soldiers marching through the burning remains of a city is what really shows the true horror of the Vietnam war, with the use of a song of which that embodies capitalism and American corporate greed is just everything.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a good and engaging thriller, but this is quite possibly the worst time to release a film like this, especially with the ongoing situation in Palestine. Kinda leaves a bad taste in your mouth as soon as you realise that.

Andrew Tate has done absolutely irreversible damage to the youth.

Stephen Graham has to be up there among some of the best British actors of all time, I really wish he gets more recognition, he is beyond worthy of it. Such a heartbreaking and tragic look on the impacts that social media has on teenagers. The way that such an abnormal event can affect a family just felt so authentic to me.

How can Netflix go from releasing absolute dogshit like The Electric State, to this absolute masterclass in the same month, I really don’t get it.
