Really great in general, masterpiece level filmmaking.
On the surface, Scorsese does what he does best. But, those last 30-45 minutes are truly what makes this stand out from his entire filmography. Of course, we get hints of the inevitable but showing ‘Frank’ living in that inevitable is truly heartbreaking and it’s the most vulnerable Scorsese has ever been.
Performance wise De Niro was good. The supporting cast didn’t miss a beat. But, Pesci and Pacino were…

Positives I can grab, Aubrey Plaza and Shia LaBeouf were ok and the set pieces were unique and ambitious.

Never have I ever felt the emotion I was going through during this film.
I simultaneously felt in awe (of the absolute master filmmaking), frightened, and violently high.
I experienced this in a theatre where those around me had context of the film, therefore were laughing at early comments HAL made. But, it didn’t take away from the deep fear I felt as soon as actions ensue and HAL’s bleak tone takes us through.
