learned a lot more than what ive been told or seen in mainstream tales of events. shocking footage. brilliant doc though i couldnt tell what decade it was done not sure if thats a reflection on the development of documentary style or the director himself
couldve been a 40 minute crime doc episode, wasnt even an interesting story either.

The film to me is about the protection of culture and the resistance of authority. Yes colour and racism is highlighted but just the easiest way to label a disliked behaviour or representation of culture. There is a vast collection of cultures represented in the film and seeing the dynamics of all those struggling fighting their own battles but ultamitely as the film introduces should be "fighting the power" instead of eachother- all at a loss and limiting their own…
the currency of cigarettes within media and press work will always be a favourite part of mine. the slow motion shots of the animals reaction to warfare and moving in was incredibly moving, particularly the gorilla as he raised his arm to his face in defence was incredibly humanistic and stood out. this documentary style film really showcased the danger and the needs within congo. you can really see the love for the gorillas and the willingness of “if its about death ill die for the gorillas” truly showcasing the selflessness and work for the better good.
