Some really intentional artistic choices like shooting entirely within the police department... leaves a lot of the plot to the imagination. It was a wonderful film that led me to wonder, not just for the movie, but in general, who's the guilty?
I loved it for all the reasons my friends hated it. While mainly thriller/horror, it didn’t feel confined to the boundaries of the genre, especially with some of the clever/niche humor tucked into the beginning half. I’m born and raised LDS, and it felt like the sister missionaries were written by someone with an insider view of the church. They were played extremely well and their contrasting personalities are very representative of the spectrum of people that practice the Mormon…
Up there with Saltburn. What it lacks in disturbia, shock factor, and pervasive uneasiness it makes up for in the ambiguity and beauty of the mundane. A true underdog story. Jared Hess deserves to be a household name around the world. Wes Anderson looks to him for guidance. I will die on this hill.
