  the pool metaphor, the simon and garfunkel soundtrack (which was coincidentally the soundtrack to my own childhood), the cinematographers amusing commitment to the rule of thirds: *chef’s kiss* !

  this film embodies the nuances of coming of age when the ‘what if’ becomes the ‘what now’, ‘what now’ do we do with newfound autonomy and the label of manhood? sex. but desire can only take you so far in life, and marriage is an endless generational…

  an underrated moment of social realist cinema when the robots start singing ‘everything is awesome’ evoking marxist theory and effects of false consciousness on the working class in contemporary society.

  “hey everybody. you don’t know me but i’m on tv so you can trust me” i mean that in itself speaks volumes. this film is bursting at the seams with sociological theory. i wonder if i’ll write an essay about it someday hmmm.

  the saturation of political messages and will ferrel being the patriarchal figure of control are two features of this film that are also two features of barbie (gerwig, 2023). this amuses me greatly.
