  working with a single location seems like a challenge, but it allows eggers to build the lighthouse out to be a third character. the use of light and shadow is so masterful: the glow of the beacon peering out through the grate, the kerosene lamp casting shadows on their faces at dinner. the 1.19:1 aspect ratio makes the viewer feel just as claustrophobic as the characters and allows eggers to skillfully withhold information from the audience. the beacon itself is…
