Another film by Martin Mcdonagh that left me with greater depression. There's an inconsequence and unresolve to a lot of what the main and side characters state as their motives throughout the course of the film.
The powerful performances from Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson aided the script to turn from light humour to being deadly serious in a heartbeat. The setting is eerie and sparse, which adds to the feeling of loneliness of all the characters.
Yet another film…
This is easily one of the best 'current' (it's from 2017) films I've seen in a while. Randomly came across it on the free IMDb streaming service a few nights ago. It's one of those films where if I give a simple run down of the synopsis it would sound boring as hell.
If the high profile cast isn't enough to entice you, I'd go so far as to say this is on par with No Country For Old Men.…
As far as films where nothing much really goes on are concerned, Paterson is a winner. I enjoyed basking in the normal day-to-day lives of this couple. The repetitive nature of the sceenplay worked for me. It was a very down-to-earth film with natural performances. It felt like being teleported elsewhere for a little while.
This was released in 2008 after some pervert journalist coined the phrase 'torture porn'. That phrase started around the time Saw (2004) and Hostel (2005) were released.
If you thought those films were at all scary, this one will give you nightmares. It's an existentialist horror film with extremely effective jump scares and a fast-developing story that gives the viewer no breathing space. The existential lens focuses on topics such as family, friendship, love, loss, betrayal and organised religion.
