Animation in the truest sense is to bring life
Animation is so unparalleled a medium to reconnect with the inner child and depict a story of coming to terms with trauma. I remember the director describing this as more of a hug than a release of anger in response to his childhood experience of abuse which is a very poetic way to put it. My heart felt so warm ~~ This film very much captures the essence of Taiwan youth cinema - the angst, the rawness, the coming-of-age. Chemistry between the main characters was tight.
