A Clever Dummy 1917
Watched this movie in film class as we were talking about the depiction of robots in film. It’s incredible to see how a performance from over 100 years ago has influenced the way actors interpret robot characters. Sometimes rigid, emotionless and cold, though only the first is true for Ben Turpin’s take on the task (though he still human, playing a robot, modelled after a human).
His movements are fast, fun, rigid but at the same time somewhat fluid. I think this is what makes the movie for me, a fun little watch!Translated from by -
