Great concept, but the execution fell short. The overly dramatic acting made it feel more like a conventional drama, which took away the important aspect of recognizing that this story is based on a true event. The acting wasn’t bad, but Major Charity Adams constantly showing her emotions all over her face, despite being the leader, made it seem kind of ridiculous. As if she wasn’t able to control her emotions, indirectly reinforcing the stereotypical concept of women being fragile. Which is kind of ironic, since I feel like the movie‘s actual intention was to empower those women.
It may be a boring and under-stimulating movie for some, given its black and white cinematography and continuous dialogue that seems never ending. However, what made the movie great for me (and kind of different from the majority of films), was that the story unfolds in real time, without time jumps or flashbacks. This creates a significant shift in perspective, as the passage of time in the movie feels just as slow as in your own reality. Which made it easier to observe the shifts in the main character’s emotional and thought processes throughout the film.
Love love love. The storyline may be kind of odd the more you think about it. But the color palette, the choice of music, the backdrops, the color grading, the acting, the chemistry between the two main characters - which you could literally feel coming out of the screen, I loved all of it. Except that Oliver is actually kind of an asshole
