Good, not great. But I’m not a huge fan of the musical either. The production design and costumes are the standouts. Love the commentary on institutional corruption and propaganda and the depiction of female friendship. Cynthia Erivo’s incredibly talented too obviously. And Ariana Grande gives a strong performance, but her Galinda feels like a copy/paste of Kristen Chenoweth, down to the same physical comedy and gags. I’ll admit I was a little disappointed that she didn’t make the character more…

The Substance 2024
Ok, this gets a giant YES from me. Visceral body horror, campy dark comedy, and delicious feminist commentary on our cultural obsession with female aging and image. This is a touch over-the-top, yes, but I’m forgiving because I had so much fun with it. I wish I had seen this in theaters to experience it with an audience.
It’s about damn time the horror genre received more recognition, and this film is a prime example of why we need more…

Bohemian Rhapsody 2018
He’s out.
On what pretext?
Villainy.Sure, it’s your standard biopic, hits all the expected beats, and the ending is rushed. But the film is elevated by the self-aware performances of the cast who make it a helluva lot of fun.

Heretic 2024
A play-by-play of what a faith crisis actually feels like!!! 🙂🙃 only in a psychotic atheist’s funhouse in under two hours rather than drawn out for a decade while fully submerged in institutional Mormonism LOL, but I digress 💁♀️
The three leads are fantastic. Strong first half, but a muddled and rushed second half. Very loving and accurate representation of missionaries and LDS culture. Appreciated that they wove in the discussion on polygamy. Tackles a lot of great existential themes…
