Glad I watched Nope again just before it left theaters! Plenty has been said but since this movie has been on my mind for months, I feel like I have to try and shout out some things I love:
The creature design rocks. Jean Jacket is a classic disc-shaped UFO, a cowboy hat, a pigmented iris, a fabric sail… has a gullet like the bellows of a camera… evolves like a moon jellyfish… glides like a manta ray with the power…
The things that connect us to this world- sensory experiences, relationships with other people, memorable moments- are so thoughtfully observed and beautifully rendered by Raven Jackson and team. Wow.
there are many wonderfully, interestingly-composed frames here, but the one that I keep thinking about/ want a screencap of is when they’re simply sitting in the car and she says something like, “I wish I could give you my sleep, like batteries.” so tender
