Leila 1997
Leila Hatami's face and poetic narration drive this film more than the dialogue.
This film, around two hours long, is definitely a slow burner. Director Dariush Mehrjui allows ample time for each scene to play out, often culminating with long pauses with shots lingering on Leila's pensive face and reflective narration by Hatami. He also seems to be a big fan of showing, not telling.
Not uncommon among other Iranian films, the story is ultimately another take on 1) romance…
