  maybe it makes sense that you might have to view or know art as more than just its face value; aka take into account its novelty and legacy, recognise the circumstances it was made in/its historical context.

  but I didn't watch this knowing about its SHC or the genre or Melville. so i wanted to like it but, to me, it felt like a film made to impress the already impressed
