  Where to fucken start with this sugar-coated whimsical mess. 

  Ok. When I saw this in the cinema I had no idea what the story was going to be. Pretty early on, starts to be a bit of a Tim burton / Willy Wonka Frankenstein story with animals that look like they’re from Roger Ballens pictures and a pretty but infantile Frankenstein dressed by Molly Godard. It’s visually stimulating for sure, with fantastical steam punk vibes.

  But then the whole audience…

  I was very captivated by this movie from start to finish. The acting was beautiful and the story of life changing direction so suddenly was heart wrenching. the use of sound was really immersive, but it portrays Cochlear implants as terrible, like life is almost unbearable with them. I do not know at all what it is like to have this procedure so I’m not speaking from experience, but it felt like there was a kind of hierarchy of Deafness…
