The Monkey 2025
Shout out to the woman in front of me who audibly gasped every single time the monkey was on screen. I mean even when it was a shot / reverse shot type deal she'd be like:
[Shot of monkey]
Woman in front of me: *gasp*
[Shot of character looking at monkey]
Woman: ...
[Same shot of monkey as before]
Woman: *gasp*
This added to my enjoyment of the film immensely.Translated from by -

Wild Rose 2018
I am actually buzzing after seeing this film! I want to sing, but my housemates are asleep so I have to hold it in. I wasn't too excited for this so soon after A Star is Born but (and to preface, I adored A Star is Born) I think Wild Rose does some things even better. It is funny, heartfelt and inspiring. Jessie Buckley is insanely talented, the direction felt genuine, the pacing is swift but perfectly judged, and I'm going to stop gushing now because it's getting excessive.

Us 2019
Second attempt at watching this after a bunch of people talked and laughed through my first viewing (I didn't attack any of them but did deploy some mad tutting). Frustration aside, two watches seems only appropriate considering the subject matter and it made me super appreciative of all the patterns and foreshadowing scattered through this insanely clever film. Something about the pacing didn't quite work for me, but that's just a small complaint. I'm always going to be here for well-conceived, well-written and well-made original horror. Thank you Jordan Peele :)
