sex, lies, and videotape 1989
Erotic and sensual, yet somehow not explicitly sexual, sex, lies and videotape tells a story of complex characters dealing with varying feelings and desires when it comes to sex. It was totally gripping from beginning to end, with the last confrontation between Ann (Andie MacDowell) and Graham (James Spader) keeping me at the edge of my seat. The ending, however, seemed a slightly out of place for such a contemplative and complicated film. Still, I loved it!

Interesting premise that would have benefitted from going all the way. Nightbitch seems to be holding back, when it could have and should have been crazier. It ultimately falls a bit flat and underestimates its viewers ability to interpret and understand by not leaving much to the imagination, so to speak. The ending felt a little too conventional and safe for a story that explores the animalistic, primal side of us.

The Virgin Suicides 1999
I was expecting to really like this movie, but it was overall just an awkward, unfulfilling experience. In the end I knew nothing about the Lisbon girls or the boys with the strange obsession to the girls. The acting was occasionally very awkward and unconvincing. For me, this movie fell completely flat, with no real meaning or depth. The characters were explored at such a surface level that I hardly even remember their names.
