Soooo now I realized that Combichrist AND Acid Bath sampled from Blue Velvet? So insane. Felt like a fucked up version of Hitchcock’s Rear Window honestly. I love how you can track Lynch’s use of color for certain motifs in all of his films. His balance of black/darkness on the screen feels emersive.

Sleepy Hollow 1999
The dark, gothic aesthetic was so on point but the plot absolutely sucked. The practical sets were very cool and I loved that classic Danny Elfman soundscape, but the story and characters were just unenjoyable and uninteresting.

Visually interesting; the cinematography carries this film for sure. Lots of great shots with long-tracking moments and use of wide frames. My favorite scene was the lunch devolution. The cuts had a chaotic buildup and paired so well with the red color overlayed from the light coming through the closed curtains.

No One Will Save You 2023
Fun watch; it’s been a while since I’ve seen an alien invasion plot. There was zero reasoning for no dialogue, but the main protagonist was entertaining to watch throughout so I wasn’t too mad.
I think I would’ve liked this more if the build up wasn’t so god damn hilarious. I found myself laughing at each of the alien designs every time they came on screen. Whoever designed these were like me drawing as a 7 year old: copying a lot of artwork already created, and always fucking up the hands and feet.
