I didn’t think this movie literally took place in the same universe as Searching, but that was pretty neat. The movie was just as engaging as Searching with a likable protagonist and twists and turns. A few twists were way too obvious from the start which took me out of it when they were pointed out 40 minutes after the fact. Overall, I really enjoyed it and look forward to that alien movie they’re very obviously setting up. IYKYK.

You’re literally watching a nightmare for an hour and a half. It was very creatively crafted and the scares were brilliant. The entire time you’re waiting for that “bang” to go off. It’s all about the building of tension which they execute phenomenally. It’s a pretty drawn out movie, which it has to be, but unfortunately that means it doesn’t have a ton of rewatch value for me.

The expectations were high after that impressive first chapter. Needless to say, this one did not live up to expectations. I still really enjoyed this one, but most of the 2nd act was just really repetitive. The three hour runtime definitely could’ve been reduced. With an adult cast this time, the magic of youth fighting evil was gone, but the talent more than made up for that. James McAvoy never disappoints, but the all star performance here seems to be…

What feels like a love letter to old movies, The Lighthouse explores isolation and madness in an extremely entertaining way despite the slow burn approach. Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe accentuate this movie with their outstanding performances. The old effects and props used to make this movie feel like a classic was a great touch.
