This is the first time I have watched a movie and said to myself, "Wow! This is intelligent body horror!" While the third act goes slightly over the rails, the message and story are sublime. The practical effects are well done and there are a lot of visual nods to other horror movies that you can easily spot.

Jude Law as Henry VIII is an exciting concept, and probably the strongest point in the movie. The length he got to make the movie set believable should be commended. Unfortunately, the movie is average, and as a history buff, I could not forgive so many "what ifs" and inventions. Still, it gives an interesting glimpse into Henry's treatment of women and the oppressive nature of his reign.

While the found footage explanation weighs very little in the general story, I think the 70s aesthetics and the reality TV make this a very original and compelling movie with a bonkers finale for good measure.

It's difficult to compare to the original, it's mostly like comparing different media. Eggers never failed me and once again brought his aesthetics to the mix. More motivations exist for the characters, better background story details, and many historical and cultural accuracies regarding the vampire myth. Contrary to other horror movies, I think the weakest parts are the jump scares, of which there are only a few.
