  A neat debut film! Really dug all the animal, predator/prey, and hunting motifs in relation to all the sexual themes. Undeniably tense and uncomfortable even if those moments do come at the cost of a bit of noticeable contrivance.

  Compared to Longlegs and The Blackcoat's Daughter, The Monkey feels like Oz Perkins finally hitting his stride after realizing he's actually a pretty funny guy. While the more dramatic elements fall a little flat, it still finds a way to be undeniably tense and creepy at points while still maintaining a consistent sense of humor that really worked for me. Definitely one of the better horror-comedies out there!
