    Y Tu Mamá También

A deeply melancholic film despite its forwardness and hedonistic attitudes. A woman using the last of her days to finally live her life, two boys holding on to juvenile escapades to avoid their feelings and hard truths towards each other, all while the world around them also heads towards irrevocable change. Sex is an open secret between everyone, yet the most intimate and tender moment between our two male leads is covered by shame and silence as they flee back…

A neat debut film! Really dug all the animal, predator/prey, and hunting motifs in relation to all the sexual themes. Undeniably tense and uncomfortable even if those moments do come at the cost of a bit of noticeable contrivance.

Compared to Longlegs and The Blackcoat's Daughter, The Monkey feels like Oz Perkins finally hitting his stride after realizing he's actually a pretty funny guy. While the more dramatic elements fall a little flat, it still finds a way to be undeniably tense and creepy at points while still maintaining a consistent sense of humor that really worked for me. Definitely one of the better horror-comedies out there!
