When I first watched this film I did not like it. I thought the dialogue was not great and I was confused about character arcs and "doctoral" behavior that did not make sense. Upon rewatching this film I like it a lot more. However there are still some glaring spots that are difficult to overcome. There are some very annoying characters (looking at you Holloway) that make the scenes they are in excruciating to watch. Although the film is star…

I wanted to like this one more than I did. The amount of photos and interviews are impressive, but ultimately the tape-recording sessions got a bit old. Also, the film felt like it meandered even though it was trying to stick to a chronological telling, with the jumps to the mystery death of the biographer it felt like the focus shifts were harsh. Wow...they just keep going in directions that you do not anticipate. This feels like the most existential Toy Story film yet and that is a wholehearted endorsement. The complexity of what it means to be "alive" and what you do with that time is entertaining to witness. Per usual and to no one's surprise Keanu Reeves steals it as do Key and Peele. I do not anticipate a sequel mostly because I do not know how you could have a sequel to anyone's satisfaction having left this film in the state it is. A beautiful ending to a gorgeous ride.

How do you encapsulate music that permeates your inner intimate spirit and yet connects you with millions of people across the world, in a film? My bias is loud and front and center...this film spoke to me...specifically 10 year old me who was singing and clapping along with the Live Aid crowd from my bedroom in LA. This film was a beautiful reminder of the importance of centering queer superheroes that exist in our popular culture. It also reminded me that I'm pura queen, pura loca, por vida.
